Carol Danvers - (evolution)
Have you ever seen a little girl run so fast she falls down? There's an instant, a fraction of a second before the world catches hold of her again... a moment when she's outrun every doubt and fear she's ever had about herself and she flies. In that one moment, every little girl flies. I need to find that again. Like taking a car out into the desert to see how fast it can go, I need to find the edge of me... and maybe, if I fly far enough, I'll be able to turn around and look at the world... and see where I belong.
~ Captain Marvel

Carol Susan Jane Danvers is a fictional superhero appearing in American comic books published by Marvel Comics. Created by writer Roy Thomas and artist Gene Colan, Danvers first appeared as an officer in the United States Air Force and a colleague of the Kree superhero Mar-Vell in Marvel Super-Heroes #13 (March 1968). Danvers later became the first incarnation of Ms. Marvel in Ms. Marvel #1 (cover-dated Jan. 1977) after her DNA was fused with Mar-Vell's during an explosion, giving her superhuman powers. Debuting in the Silver Age of comics, the character was featured in a self-titled series in the late 1970s before becoming associated with the superhero teams the Avengers and the X-Men. The character has also been known as Binary, Warbird and Captain Marvel at various points in her history. Danvers has been frequently labeled as Marvel's most notable female hero and frequently described as one of the most powerful characters in the entire franchise.

Brie Larson portrays the character in the live-action Marvel Cinematic Universe films Captain Marvel, Avengers: Endgame (both 2019), Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings (2021), and The Marvels (2023). McKenna Grace portrayed a young Carol in Captain Marvel. Alexandra Daniels voices alternate reality versions of the character in the Disney+ animated series What If...? (2021).

Captain Marvel (WC Continuity, model 2)

Concept of Carol Danvers / Captain Marvel in the continuity of Marvel's Spider-Man: Webbed Champion

  • Danvers / Captain Marvel is a supporting character in Marvel's Spider-Man: Webbed Champion, voiced by Jennifer Hale (who reprises her role from The Avengers: Earth's Mightiest Heroes). While her story is same as in the original until the events of "Between Ock and a Hard Place", she uses her visual appearance from the Marvel Rising franchise, with an one-piece leotard version of the costume worn by Brie Larson's character in Captain Marvel, added with a new attachable red helmet with a fin resembling Danvers's mohawk hairstyle in the comics and a square hole in the back to leave her hair visible. Along with being Kamala Khan's idol and inspiration, Danvers is also her mentor for the mantle of Ms. Marvel. She has an unvoiced cameo in "The Parker Errand", along with her fellow Avengers at the moment when Captain America reportedly announces that he and the Avengers declare J. Jonah Jameson (who was at the time standing trial for his involvement with Venom and Scorpion's rampage in "On the Tiger's Claws") guilty after Spider-Man, Mockingbird and She-Hulk expose Jameson for his role in Richard and Mary Parker's murder by the hands of the Red Skull. She later appears in "Seeds of Life", where she accompanies the Avengers on the hunt for Red Skull and his Hydra forces in his island, before the Avengers are ambushed by Madame Masque and her henchmen. Danvers and the rest of the Avengers continue battling the villains, and later watch as Arsenal obliterates Madame Masque's ship, and kills Red Skull. Danvers is later with the Avengers in New York congratulating Spider-Man and his new team of the Champions for their heroic success. Later in "Legendary Universes, Part 6: Ultimate Alliance", she and her fellow Avengers join the Champions and their allies from the alternate dimensions (the new Jedi Masters, Sonic the Hedgehog and the Mobian Freedom Fighters, the Autobots, and the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles) in the final battle against the Regent and his army of Insectoids from the Negative Zone. During the battle, Danvers works with Optimus Prime and Nova in destroying a Negative Zone vessel summoned by Regent. After the heroes emerge victorious, Danvers is shown expressing herself proud of Kamala / Ms. Marvel, who then introduces her to Bumblebee.
    • Danvers is a supporting character in the show's tie-in comic book series Marvel's Princesses of Destiny.
    • The same version returns in the show's Disney+ sequel miniseries Marvel's Spider-Man: Rising Legend, voiced again by Hale.
    • Danvers is also in the show's Disney+ follow-up TV special film A Marvel Christmas Carol, but with no speaking dialogues.
    • Danvers returns in show's second Disney+ follow-up TV special film Marvel's Superhero Adventures: Infinity War, voiced again by Jennifer Hale. She is revealed to be married to Steve Rogers / Captain America, with whom she has three children named Richie, Ian, and Lyla. She is also shown to be best friends with She-Hulk, and has a strong bond with her protégée Jessica Reilly / Spider-Woman. She first appears in the beginning of the film, scolding an apprehended Tyler Hayward for using the metahumans of his Thunderbolt program as living weapons after most of the candidates were killed by the Klyntauri, and others were captured and enslaved by Thanos. Danvers is later seen visiting Peter Parker's aunt May, with whom she and Hope Van Dyne discuss plans for Jessica's marriage with Alana Jobson, while her children enjoy a play-date with Jessica's daughter Jenna, as well as Teresa Parker, Cassie Lang, Jack Thompson, Baby Groot, and the Altman-Kaplan twins. Later, Danvers as Captain Marvel joins her fellow Avengers as well as the Champions and Guardians of the Galaxy on their mission to find the remaining Infinity Stones, and link them back to the Infinity Amulet. In the mission, she accompanies Wiccan, Ghost-Spider, and Gamora in searching for the Soul Stone in Vormir. Under the Stonekeeper's instructions of sacrificing an evil, guilty mortal to the abyss, she and her group defeat and sacrifice Green Goblin, earning the Stone. In the film's climax, Captain Marvel later takes part in the final battle alongside the superheroes on Earth, until the Black Order members are freed from their brainwashing, and the Klyntauri are sent back to Sanctuary X, which is destroyed by Doctor Octopus. Later in epilogue, Danvers and Rogers are shown with their children attending to Jessica's marriage with Alana, and enjoying the New Year's firework show during the reception.
    • The same version returns in the second sequel miniseries Marvel's All-Star Multiverse, voiced again by Hale. In the first episode "Return of the Legends", Danvers and Rogers accompany the Avengers, the Fantastic Four, and the Legendary Warriors (Rey Skywalker, Sonic the Hedgehog, Optimus Prime and Leonardo) on the hunt for Thane while their children are put in the care of Peter Parker and his friends in Horizon Star. In the following episode "The Sky's the Limit", Danvers and other heroes learn of the existence of Babylon-6, and its protectors the Skycruiser Commandos, following a fight against invading Hypersaurs.
  • Danvers (on the moniker of Captain Marvel) appears as a main character in Marvel: All New, All Different Chronicles, voiced by Jennifer Hale. As in the Ultimate Marvel: Earth-2 comics, Danvers is married with Steve Rogers / Captain America, with whom she has a daughter named Liz / Starforce, and is a founding member of the Avengers.
  • Danvers is a playable character in Marvel/DC Heroes Unite!, reprised again by Jennifer Hale. She and the featured Marvel superheroes team up with the DC heroes and the Rookie hero/heroine to defeat Thanoseid. She and other experienced heroes (consisting of Batman, Superman, Wonder Woman, Spider-Man, Captain America, and Iron Man) acts as mentors for the Rookie.
  • Carol Danvers / Captain Marvel is a playable character in Marvel Superhero Adventures: Intergalactic Grand Prix, voiced again by Jennifer Hale. Appearing as one of the superheroes participating in the titular racing tournament hosted by the Grandmaster, Captain Marvel owns two karts: the Queen Bee, an antigravity motorcycle with the colors and details of Captain Marvel's suit, and the Starforce Maverick, a red and blue race car with the shape of a F-22 Raptor war airplane.
  • Carol Danvers / Captain Marvel appears in Marvel Girl Power, voiced again by Jennifer Hale.
