Fantasia 2040 is an upcoming American animated musical anthology film produced by Walt Disney Animation Studios and a sequel to Fantasia 2000, to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the original film in 1940. The segments are introduced by celebrities including Alan Tudyk, Emma Thompson, Idina Menzel, Jodi Benson, Zach Galifianakis, Linda Larkin, and Don Cheadle in live action scenes. The music for seven of the film's eight segments is performed by the Chicago Symphony Orchaestra, returning from Fantasia 2000, conducted by Klaus Mäkelä.

Synopsis[]

Like its predecessors, Fantasia 2040 consists of animated segments set to pieces of classical music.

Segments[]

  • Untitled neon train segment: In a neon mountain railroad setting, five people on a train team up to stop a criminal from robbing the train.
  • Untitled segment with blue-footed boobies: Set in the Galápagos Islands, a flock of blue-footed boobies scout the seas to find fish to eat from underwater while avoid their natural enemy, the Galápagos hawk.
  • The Dream of Little Tuk: Based on Hans Christian Andersen's fairy tale of the same name, a little boy named Tuk interrupts his studying to help an old woman carry water. Later, when he goes to sleep, he puts his geography book under his pillow in the hopes that its knowledge will be magically transmitted into his brain. In his dream, the old woman appears and repys his earlier kindness.
  • The Sorcerer's Apprentice by Paul Dukas: Based on Goethe's 1797 poem, "Der Zauerlehrling", the segment is the only one retained from Fantasia and Fantasia 2000. It tells the story of Mickey Mouse, an apprentice of sorcerer Yen Sid who attempts some of his master's tricks before knowing how to control them. Introduced by Idina Menzel. The scene where Mickey shakes hands with Mäkelä's and James Levine's predecessor Leopold Stokowski is like that in the original film but Mickey is now voiced by Bret Iwan instead of Walt Disney or Wayne Allwine.
  • Untitled 1960s Washington, D.C. segment: Set in Washington D.C. in the 1960s, the segment follows John F. Kennedy, the 35th president of the United States, as he prepares his "We choose to go to the moon" speech, which eventually leads to the Apollo 11 mission in July 1969 with Neil A. Armstrong, Michael Collins and Edwin E. Aldrin Jr. as the first astronauts to land on the moon.
  • Untitled segment with cheetahs: A cheetah family do their usual jogging routines around the open plains when a young cub of the family stumbles across a boat of African safari tourists, and accidentally stows away on it.
  • Untitled Dwampyverse crossover segment: Phineas, Ferb, Milo Murphy, Hamster, Gretel, Perry, Doofenshmirtz, Vanessa, Stacy, Amanda, Cavendish, Dakota, Diogee, Lydia, Kevin, Bailey, Fred and Hiromi get kidnapped and transported to the Philippines by Crimson Haste, Itsy Bitsy and Clem Clam who plan on destroying them by using their Pistachion snake (a large snake with a head resembling King Pistacion with fangs), and with help from Perry's Canadian partner, Lyla Lolliberry, and a young street smart Filipino boy, the gang must work together on a journey through the Philippines to defeat the villains and get back home.
  • Untitled waterskiing competition segment: A young high school girl wants to participate in the upcoming annual waterskiing competition, so with the help of her friends, she starts training at a lake near her house. After 10 weeks of training, she gets into the competition in a stadium against a rival team, but as she was about to give up after being mocked by the rival team, her friends encourage her and she goes against the rival team and eventually wins the competition.
