Dovahkiin (also known as the Dragonborn; ドラゴンボーン, Doragonboun) is the main protagonist from the video game The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, published by Bethesda Softworks, making his debut in the entire Super Smash Bros. franchise (Great Fray Smash Bros. in Japan) as a newcomer in the Xbox One port of Super Smash Bros. Ultimate (Great Fray Smash Bros. Special in Japan), before becoming a DLC Fighter in the Nintendo Switch port.
Moveset[]
The moveset reference is taken from here: [1]
As a very fierce warrior, Dovahkiin's strength is quite aggressive and devastating, able to rack up damage and finish opponents off with powerful blows at close combat. He also has a decent range when using shouts, although up close is where he generally excel in both categories.
Gimmicks/Mechanics[]
Dovahkiin has a meter for his Neutral, Side and Down Specials whenever its three-word versions are used by holding the button, and it takes a bit for them to recharge to full.
Basic Moves[]
- Neutral Combo - Dovahkiin performs a 3-hit sword swing combo, before activating the Elemental Fury shout (Su Grah Dyn) as he swings his sword rapidly for a multi-hit combo and then does a finishing stab.
- Side Tilt - Dovahkiin bashes forward with his shield.
- Up Tilt: - Dovahkiin swings his sword overhead, acting as a faster, but less powerful version of Ike's Up Smash.
- Down Tilt: - Dovahkiin quickly slashes downwards and across with his sword.
- Dash Attack - Dovahkiin hits the opponent with his shield while charging at them. Can block projectiles.
Smash Moves[]
- Side Smash - Dovahkiin takes a big step forward and swings a steel battle axe horizontally at the opponent.
- Up Smash - Dovahkiin swings a steel war hammer in an upwards arc over his head in a similar vein to Cloud's.
- Down Smash: Fire Storm - Dovahkiin charges up and then lets out a powerful, fiery explosion around himself.
Aerial Moves[]
- Neutral Air - Dovahkiin does a full-body, 180° diagonal sword spin attack.
- Forward Air - Dovahkiin performs a diagonal sword slash mid-air.
- Back Air - Dovahkiin swings his shield around to bash opponents behind him.
- Up Air - Dovahkiin quickly swipes his sword upwards.
- Down Air - Dovahkiin strikes downwards hard with a single, combined strike from the sword and shield. Meteors at the end of his sword with a fiery effect.
Grab/Throw Moves[]
- Grab - Dovahkiin reaches out with both hands aggressively.
- Pummel - While holding the opponent, Dovahkiin spits small bursts of fire in their face.
- Forward Throw - Dovahkiin throws the opponent forward by shouting them with a one-worded Unrelenting Force "Fus", except that they aren't paralyzed and a cooldown period isn't used.
- Back Throw - Dovahkiin throws the opponent behind him, then spins clockwise and slashes them with his sword.
- Up Throw - Dovahkiin tosses the opponent in the air and then stabs upwards with his sword.
- Down Throw - Dovahkiin slams the opponent onto the ground and then stomps on them, sending them flying upwards.
Special Moves[]
- Neutral Special: Unrelenting Force (Fus Roh Dah) - Dovahkiin shouts aloud as he unleashes the power of the Thu'um, shooting forward a ball of wind with varying power.
- Fus - Stuns for a very short time, very small. Cooldown is 3 seconds.
- Roh - Slightly larger, pushes back a fair distance. Cooldown is 6 seconds.
- Dah - Huge wind blast that blasts opponents back, also inflicts shield stun when close enough. Cooldown is about 10 seconds.
- Side Special: Fire Breath (Yol Toor Shul) - Dovahkiin blows up scorching flames that damage a lot in a short period of time.
- Yol - Tiny fire burst, little knockback. Cooldown is 3 seconds.
- Toor - A bit stronger, more flames. Cooldown is 6 seconds.
- Shul - Gigantic stream, inflicts a burn debuff. Cooldown is about 10 seconds.
- Up Special: Whirlwind Sprint (Wuld Nah Kest) - Dovahkiin shouts and flies forward at a fast pace. The angle of trajectory can be adjusted similar to Lucario's, but he can basically only go in one direction with slight maneuverability. Holding the button will make him fly up further.
- Wuld - Moves up a pathetic distance (a bit further than Little Mac's).
- Nah - Moves up reasonably high (as far as Meta Knight's).
- Kest - Leaps incredibly high (as high as Lucario's fully charged Up Special) with a windbox.
- Down Special: Dragonrend (Joor Zah Frul) - Dovahkiin shouts out, summoning a blast that comes from the sky and drags down opponents.
- Joor - Doesn't meteor, but brings opponents down. Cooldown is 4 seconds.
- Zah - Becomes a strong meteor at high percentages. Cooldown is 6 seconds.
- Frul - Strong meteor, but reduces an opponent's knockback (lessens knockback of their attacks by 0.1x for 6.5 seconds). Cooldown is about 12 seconds.
- Final Smash: Call Dragon (Od Ah Viing) - Dovahkiin lets out a tremendous shout "Od Ah Viing!" with a circular hitbox that encircles him. If opponents are hit, they will be stunned and knocked upwards as Odahviing, an dragon ally, flies by. Dovahkiin then yells and points his sword forward as Odahviing flies toward trapped opponents, breathing fire and then continues doing so until he gets very close to them, at which he stops and finishes off by ramming into them. Once done, Dovahkiin lets out a battle cry as Odahviing appears in the background, letting out a farewell roar as he flies away.
Entrance/On-Screen Appearance[]
Dovahkiin rides in on Odahviing, jumps off and draws out his sword and shield.
Taunts[]
- Up: Dovahkiin bangs his sword against his shield in a "come at me" fashion, like how certain bandit enemies in Skyrim do so.
- Side: Dovahkiin uses the Throw Voice shout as his voice is thrown a distance the size of half of Final Destination (with the appropriate physical marker from Skyrim).
- "Hey, cheese brain!"
- "Hey, melon nose!"
- "Hey, skeever butt!"
- "Hey, slug-breath!"
- "Hey, troll bait!"
- "Hey, ugly!"
- Down: Dovahkiin conjures up the elements of fire, ice and electricity magic from the Destruction school in his hands. All swirl around and make appropriate sound effects until the taunt ends.
Idle Animations[]
- Dovahkiin stretches his arms to loosen his muscles.
- Dovahkiin looks to the left and right slowly.
Victory Poses[]
- Dovahkiin shouts out flames from the Fire Breath shout upwards while posing (making the same sound as dragons do when they breath flames). He then sheaths his sword and strikes a pose.
- Dovahkiin absorbs a dragon's soul while standing proud, his expression being more composed and tranquil rather than angry.
- Odahviing roars and flies by with Dovahkiin riding on him. They appear for a moment, then go out of the camera's view. From above, Dovahkiin jumps off of Odahviing, forward-shoulder rolls and faces the camera, striking a pose with his sword similar to the Talos Statue. After the name splash, Odahviing lands close behind him.
Losing Pose[]
Dovahkiin is seen clapping with a neutral expression.
Victory Theme[]
An amalgation of the Main Theme and Skill/Level Up from The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim.
Stage[]
Throat of the World[]
The stage has a flat, open area with two edges on either side (the sides of the mountain), and decent horizontal blast zones. It also has a higher than average ceiling due to it being a mountain. The Dragon Word Wall can be seen in the background. If Dovahkiin is in battle, a few words in dragon language will glow, similar to what happens when you first approach the wall for the first time in Skyrim.
Occasionally, you'll see dragons flying in the distant background, roaring just like they do in the game. Paarthurnax also will be flying by, but very close instead. He will also sometimes land on the word wall and watch the fight up close, and then fly away. The Time Wound can also be seen off to the right of the stage.
The stage will always be covered in snow and windy every time. This has no effect on the fighters currently on the stage. You can see the faintest bit of towns and buildings of all of Skyrim in the distance. This stage has a day/night cycle like Town and City and Smashville. At daytime, the sun will appear in the sky. At night, stars will dot the sky and the Aurora Borealis lights will be visible.
The Omega and Battlefield versions of this stage still include the land of Skyrim (with day/night cycle), dragons and Paarthurnax flying around (not roaring), and the Aurora Borealis lights at night in the background. The Word Wall and cliffs are gone, replaced by the floating platforms. These platforms are constructed out of the granite, rock and snow of the Throat of the World.
Classic Mode: The Way of the Voice[]
Dovahkiin's classic mode is mainly themed after hunting dragons, as he fights giant characters that either are dragons or have dragon-like aspects in terms of motifs. The name is a reference to a quest in The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim with the same name.
