In August 2022, it was reported that Sony Pictures Animation was developing a 3D computer-animated Dominic & Toby film. In January 2023, Sony Pictures Animation announced that Mike Rianda and Jeff Rowe, the writers of The Mitchells vs. the Machines, were writing the screenplay for the film. In June 2023, Sony Pictures Animation set the release date for September 12, 2024.
