Doctor Who Returns is a British science-fiction TV series that airs on the BBC and is a soft reboot of the original Doctor Who shows and, like the previous reboot, keeps the continuity from the past shows but reworks them for a more modern setting.

- The First Doctor (played by Dan Stevens) - the first Doctor of the series and the main protagonist of the first three seasons who is an eccentric that doesn't have an understanding of normal behavior.
- Kayla Potts (played by Olivia Cooke) - the first Doctor's companion who is a shop owner that overuses sarcasm and often finds the Doctor very strange.
- Rodney Davidson (played by John Boyega) - the first Doctor's other companion who is a conspiracy theorist that has been trying to find the Doctor for years.

- Malissa Potts (played by Michelle Fairley) - Kayla's mother who has a very vocal crush on the Doctor, who she also somewhat dislikes at the same time.
Antagonists[]
- The First Master (played by Aiden Turner) - the main antagonist of the series who rarely appears but has a large grudge against the Doctor.
- Davros (played by Hugh Laurie) - a man who the Doctor himself refers to as his arch-enemy who he thought he had killed many times.
- Daleks (voiced by Nicholas Briggs) - Davros' creation which, ironically, rarely actually obey him and were made from the corpses of Davros' people.
- Cybermen (voiced by Nicholas Briggs) - a race of cyborgs who travel the universe converting humanoids through a process called "upgrading".
