Dexter is a 2028 American adventure comedy science fiction film based on the Cartoon Network series Dexter's Laboratory. Produced by Cartoon Network Studios, Sony Pictures Animation and Cartoon Network Films and released by Columbia Pictures.

The film is written and directed by Genndy Tartakovsky, whom is the director of Hotel Transylvania, with writer Xavier ShaquilleCandi MiloKat CressidaKath SoucieJeff Bennett and Kimberly Brooks reprise their respective roles, with Tom Kenny and Rob Paulsen co-starring, and Brock Baker as Mandark (replacing Eddie Deezen) and Dee Bradley Baker as Monkey (replacing Frank Welker).

It was released in the United States on July 7, 2028. It received generally positive reviews, and was a box office success, earning $152.8 million worldwide against its $20 million budget.

Plot

Taking place after the series, Dexter and Dee Dee goes on an adventure to save their parents from an evil mad scientist.

The film's animation was animated by Rough Draft Studios, with additional animation done at Mercury Filmworks and Munich Animation.

Music

Tom Holkenborg, known for his composing on Paramount's Sonic The Hedgehog, composes the film’s score. Tom Holkenborg was tasked to capture the music and leitmotifs to stay accurate to the original series.

On Rotten Tomatoes, the film holds an approval rating of 77% based on 145 reviews, with an average rating of 8.0/10. On Metacritic, it receives a score of 80 out of 100, based on 45 critics, indicating "generally favorable reviews". Audiences polled by CinemaScore gives the film an average grade of "A" on its A+ to F scale.

Box office

Dexter grossed $78.2 million in North America, along with $74.6 million in other territories for a worldwide total of $152.8 million, making it a box office success.
