Cu Tales with Roger, Carlos & Rita is a 1999 musical comedy based on the comic books published by Dark Horse Comics and inspired by the Mexican Folklore.
Plot[]
Act I[]
A long, long time ago somewhere in Mexico, a bird named Cu Bird was very unhappy with how he looks ("I want to look amazing") so Owl the Barn Owl proposed that they should give him a feather each and, when they did, asked Cu to be the messenger of the Council of the Birds ("Would you like to be messenger"). Cu accepted because the other birds (including Owl) were so kind to him but soon began to neglect his task by admiring himself.
One day, Eagle, the head of the Council, send Cu to call the other birds to a meeting but he was so busy admiring himself that he neglected to tell the other birds about the meeting ("I love the way I look"). When Eagle came to the appointed place, he found that no one was here. Angry, Eagle came to look for the other birds and they all start quarrelling on who's to blame ("Who's to blame"). Their noise and shouting woke up the God of Forests so he sent Quiet Bird to calm them down but, since Quiet is quiet, none of the birds listened to him. The God became angry and took the birds' speech, including Cu and Owl ("You are now to never speak again").
Because of what happened and upon remembering that it was Cu Bird's neglectfulness that cause them to quarrell, the other birds blamed him for neglecting to tell them about the meeting as well as Owl because Cu having those feathers was her idea so they promised them a lesson they'll never forget. Now Owl and Cu hides from the other birds in the dark and Cu being unhappy that his plumage serves no purpose because nobody can see it in the light of the day.
Act II[]
A few years later, Cu and Owl, still hiding from the other birds, were unexpectivly found by God. They tried to run away but God told them not to run because he's not going to hurt them but instead wants to make a deal to them ("I got a deal for you two"). He makes a deal that he will give them (but only them) the ability to speak again but in order to do that, he wants them to be friends with 3 kids (1 for weekends and the other 2 for weekdays) for 8 months if they (mainly Cu) want to prove to him that they will not neglect a task ("Here is our deal") but, remembering that they can't talk, also gives them a doll he found in an abandoned house and brought to life named Frida to keep an eye on them and speak on their behalf if they have something for her to say as well as being their agent ("Here's someone who'll be watching and helping you").
Because all the other birds are still looking for Cu and Owl, God makes them a secret birdcage-like plane with a messenge on Owl's leg and send them out of Mexico to Fonderville,
