CityMedia (formerly Global Media) is a Canadian media conglomerate and the Canadian media subsidiary of OWL Media, a unit of OWL Ventures, that owns the company's mass media properties, such as the City, City+ and Omni Television networks, CityNews Channel, CitySportsnet, CityMedia Radio, and the properties' associated digital media outlets.
CityMedia is the successor-in-interest to Baton Broadcasting (later CTV Inc.), one of Canada's first private-sector television broadcasters, and later, Bell Media. The current company traces its origins to the establishment of Bell Globemedia Inc. in 2001 by BCE and the Thomson family, combining CTV Inc. and the operations of The Globe and Mail. BCE sold the majority of its interest in 2006, but in 2011, BCE acquired the entire company (excluding The Globe and Mail) and changed the name to Bell Media Inc.
BCE would later be purchased by Styhon Battersea, and in order to ease antitrust concerns, Styhon Battersea would swap its existing ownership of Global Television (which it owned due to Styhon Entertainment's purchase of Corus Entertainment before the Styhon-Battersea merger) for ownership of CTV and TSN, plus other networks that were partly owned by Bell. Styhon Battersea would later acquire Rogers Communications, excluding the majority of Rogers Sports and Media, which City's parent company OWL Ventures would acquire and use to expand the company.
In August 2020, the company underwent a relaunch, retiring the Global brand and opting to expand Citytv and its brand, Global Media would become CityMedia, and the former Global branded services would become City services. This would reunite several of City's then former assets for the first time in a decade.
