At the center of "Blue Horizons" is George Boggs, a young teenager with his friends, whose vivid imagination sets the stage for an extravaganza of graceful dolphins, magnificent South American sea lions, and a rainbow of exotic birds. He daydreams that one day he can fly in the sky, run on land, and swim in the ocean. After encountering the spirits, those dreams begin to come true, as together they explore a place where the sea meets the land and sky. "Blue Horizons" features action both above and under the water, as a cast of divers and aerialists, dressed in eye-catching costumes symbolizing sea and sky, plunge off the elaborate set into, and also propel out of, the deep blue water, along with an educational presentation as the preshow.

Preshow[]
- Educational presentation -The 25-minute preshow hosts classical music (such as Aquarium from The Carnival of the Animals by Camille Saint Saens, and more aquatic-themed classical music) and educational facts about the animals, along with animal encounters (used before or after the show) to get guests in the spirit for the main event, Blue Horizons.
- Dolphin Cove and Dolphin Nursery - This allows you to meet the magnificent dolphins that are trainable. You can see them up close and train them when other dolphins perform in the arena. After the show, guests leave the arena and train the macaws and South American sea lions up close.
- Join the makeovers - Before the updated show, guests can sit down at the stadium and get makeovers to look like one of the show's talented performers.

The animals in the updated version of Blue Horizons are Atlantic bottlenose dolphins and South American sea lions, alongside a variety of other exotic birds. Next to them are macaws, sun conures, rock doves, red-billed parrots, great cormorants, great white pelicans, marabou storks, black vultures, East African crowned cranes, wandering albatrosses, and Andean condors. In the updated San Diego version, the animals in Blue Horizons are Atlantic bottlenose dolphins, pilot whales, and South American sea lions, alongside a variety of other exotic birds. Next to them are exotic birds consisting of macaws, sun conures, rock doves, red-billed parrots, great cormorants, great white pelicans, marabou storks, black vultures, East African crowned cranes, wandering albatrosses, and Andean condors.
