Season one adapts the first book Awkward (also the season's name), where it follows Penelope "Peppi" Torres at her first day at a new school. All things go badly wrong when she bumps into Jaime Thompson. It gets even worse when she realizes that the club she's joined are rivals with another club that has Jaime in it. Peppi finally knows that she'll have to abandon her rules to survive middle school.

Season two adapts the second book of the series Brave, where this time, Jensen Graham is bullied and ignored by his fellow classmates. He begins to wonder if they're all actually bullying him.
