Batman Descends is the eight story arc in DC Comics Batman '89 ongoing series. It is a follow up to Batman Survives, serving as a continuation of the Tim Burton Batman movies, carrying the gothic tone, and narrative style, serving as the tenth installment of the Tim Burton Batman Saga. Jason Todd is dead, and Barbara Gordon has been crippled, leaving Batman in a very dark place, choosing to work alone, leaving Alfred worried that he may end up crossing the line. To make things worse, Batman must face off against this strongest oppenent yet, Bane, an inhumanly strong yet very intelligent terrorist who intends to lay waste to Gotham. Can Batman overcome this new enemy, or will Bane be the one to finally break the bat? Meanwhile, Arnold Weskler, heir to a powerful mafia family with dissociative identity disorder, who ruthlessness he acts through his ventriloquist dummy, Scarface, consolidated power over Gotham. Though Batman is working alone, he still receives help from Catwoman, and a new allies, Cassandra Cain, a mute girl train to be an assassin from childhood, who takes up the mantle of Batgirl, and Spoiler.
