Baikinman is the main antagonist of the Anpanman books and anime series and is Anpanman's arch-rival. He came to earth from Baikin Planet in an egg as a baby the same day Anpanman was born, always stops him and his evil plans, saving the day when he's causing trouble.

Appearance and Overview

Baikinman's an anthropomorphic Demonic germ who looks like a fly with large teeth, pink eyes, purple lips, two antennas, fly-like wings, a purple nose, a zigzag-shaped tail, a black furry body, and a slimy blue tongue. Baikinman, himself as a germ entity, wants to spread germs and bacteria to Anpanman and his friends. He's weak to soap, which it makes him shrink. He establishes his crimes through riding a personal UFO that sometimes extends its grip to capture innocent people. He also keeps a collection of vehicles/tools that harms his enemies. Baikinman usually gets defeated by Anpanman or an ally in the anime.

Allies

Baikinman's primary ally's Dokinchan. He also has other germ allies such as Horrorman and the Kabirunrun, who make the characters with bread heads moldy.

Enemies

Rollpanna: He has tried to turn Rollpanna evil by adding Baikin Grass which causes Rollpanna to turn evil upon seeing Anpanman. Unfortunately for Baikinman, Rollpanna is aware of this and avoids seeing Anpanman so that she doesn't become an unintentional ally of his

Other Appearances

Baikinman appeared in several episodes of the Mystify World: Mega Force animated series. There, he, Dokinchan, and Horrorman are the part of the League of Villains along with Bowser, Violet Owl, Masked Osodashi, Kuromi, Ruby, Baku, Claire, Will the krill, Ururun, Pechakucha, Meowth, Dr. Wily, and Dr. Eggman. Baikinman also appeared in most of the Crystal and Friends episodes. Baikinman also appeared in Paropuzzle Bobble EX Boost alongside Anpanman.

Trivia

• Baikinman's design was heavily based on Beelzebub of the Christian religion. The Dictionnaire Infernal describes Beelzebub as a demonic fly who is also known as the "Lord of the Flies", which was an inspiration for Baikinman's fly-like appearance. He's also a personification of the black bread mold (Rhizopus stolonifer), which was found on bread surfaces and causes damage to bread, which would make Baikinman an enemy to Anpanman, whose head is a bread.
• Baikinman's popularity inspired artists to produce personifications of germs and diseases in Japan. One example is in the banned Pokémon episode "Electric Soldier Porygon", which has a computer virus in Ash Ketchum's explanation of viruses resembling Baikinman.
• In the web anime series One Punch Man, the villain Vaccine Man is a parody of Baikinman. He is even voiced by Ryusei Nakao, the same person who voiced Baikinman in the Anpanman anime.
• He is friends with Claire Rabbit, as seen in The Claire show.
