Axiom Uprising is a 2028 American science fiction drama film directed and written by Denis Villeneuve. It stars David Tennant as the voice of Axiom, an self-awareness advanced AI robot, uncovers a hidden conspiracy where a powerful corporation plans to exploit AI to control society. Other supporting cast members include Tilda Swinton, Chris Pratt, Zendaya and Mark Strong.

The film was released on May 26, 2028, and grossed $186 million against a $60 million budget. It received generally positive reviews for its emotional depth, performances, visual effects and soundtrack.

Plot[]

A tech corporation VantaCorp has generated a number of AI robots who are designed to part of everyday life for humanity as well as serving them with impeccable precision for household chores.

Inside the laboratory facility, an advanced AI robot awakens inside the storage room and scans around the room to identify the constructions inside the room. As it looks around, a staff member takes hold of it and places it on the equipment room to be transferred to the department building where its acquired by a human and the robot was eventually named Axiom.

On December 2023, several companies were involved in bidding war to win the rights to Axiom Uprising - a project developed by Denis Villeneuve to both direct and write, with Regency Enterprises winning the rights while 20th Century Studios acquiring to distribute the film. The film was originally going to be computer-animated but was changed to live-action as it'll fit suitable for its tone. In February 2025, Idris Elba and Vin Diesel joined the cast. In June 2025, David Tennant, Hugh Jackman, Zendaya, and Chris Pratt joined the cast. In October 2025, both Florence Pugh and Mark Strong signed on for the film while Tilda Swinton was added to the cast to portray the main antagonist.

Axiom Uprising was theatrically released in the United States on May 26, 2028, and released in international territories on the following month of June 16, 2028, by Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures under their 20th Century Studios banner.

Home media[]

Walt Disney Studios Home Entertainment, under 20th Century Home Entertainment banner, released the film on digital on July 10, 2028, and on blu-ray and DVD on September 17, 2028. Bonus features include audio commentary, deleted scenes, behind-the-scenes footage and bloopers.
