Ava is a 2024 Japanese/American animated action comedy science fiction film written and directed by Mamoru Hosoda, animated by Studio Chizu, produced by New Line Cinema, RatPac Entertainment and distributed by Warner Bros. Pictures. The film stars Miya Cech, Ashley Johnson, Aubrey Anderson-Emmons, Kumail Nanjiani, Asa Butterfield and Jemaine Clement. In the film, a young girl discovers she is a non-player character in a massively multiplayer online game and partners with a player to find evidence that a gaming company's CEO stole the player's game's source code. The film received universal acclaim from critics for its animation, visuals, story, characters, voice acting, humor, action sequences and musical score. The film was also a commercial success, grossing $331.5 million worldwide at the box office. The film was nominated for Best Animated Feature and Best Original Score at the 97th Academy Awards. A sequel, Ava 2, was released in 2027 to comparable critical and commercial success.

Miya Cech as Ava / Purple Hair Girl, a fourteen-year-old purple-haired girl who is a third-year middle school (9th grade) student. She is a non-player character (NPC) in Grand City who is initially unaware that she is a video game character.
Ashley Johnson as Sharon Sacks, a player looking for source code to her original game Vivus, which she co-developed with Keys, inside the game. In Grand City, her avatar is RPG Girl.
Asa Butterfield as Craig Waldren, an employee of Shockwave Studios who co-developed Vivus with Sharon. In Grand City, his avatar is described as a "dirty stripper cop".
Aubrey Anderson-Emmons as Tara, a Grand City teenager and Ava's best friend.
Kumail Nanjiani as Sanjay, Craig's co-worker at Shockwave Studios. In Grand City, his avatar is a police officer in a rabbit suit.
Jemaine Clement as Edward Morrison, the ruthless and narcissistic founder, CEO, and head developer of Shockwave Studios who stole the source data for Vivus to make Grand City.
Donald Glover as Matt, a 22-year-old gamer who plays Grand City as 1337Man, an avatar in Grand City who owns a stash house that Ava and RPG Girl try to break into to obtain incriminating data involving Vivus.
