A black and white television begins playing as a person's voice is heard.
- Person: Robots! I'm sure you're all very aware of what they are. But do you know how they're made? it's simpler than you think! at the Ministry of Science, scientists come together to build and invent, you guessed it, robots! they've made some of the greatest and most amazing robots in the world! now, some people believe robots shouldn't exist and it was a mistake to make them. But let the head of the Ministry of Science, Professor Ochanomizu explain why that's false!
- Ochanomizu: Robots are programmed with the three laws of robotics implemented into their systems. The Three Laws of Robotics are very simple, a robot can't harm a human, a robot has to obey orders, and a robot must protect itself.
- Person: Did you hear that? robots are not allowed to harm humans! now yes, some criminal robots have found ways around this law, but you wouldn't blame all of humanity for one human disobeying the laws, would you? of course not! remember, robots have feelings too, so treat robots the way you want to be treated! this has been a message from the Ministry of Science. We make the future!
The video ends, with Dr. Umatorō Tenma ejecting a very tiny disk from a slit in the wall which stops the video.
- Tenma: Any questions?
Tenma is revealed to be a teaching a class that consists of his son Tobio, his daughter Uran, class president Kenichi, the mildly overweight Spud, school bully Kiyoshi, and the highly intelligent Natsuki.
- Spud: What are the Three Laws of Robotics?
- Tenma: The video explained that, Spud.
- Spud: Oh yeah.
- Tenma: Now, I'll ask you some questions about robots and we'll see how much you know. What are most robots made of?
- Tobio: Iron!
- Tenma: Right. What is the name of the part of a robot that creates their emotions?
- Tobio: The Brain Chip!
- Tenma: Correct. What was the name of the first robot ever created?
- Tobio: It was called--
- Tenma: Tobio, son, calm down, I know you're very excited but give others a chance to answer. Like, uh... Natsuki! what about you?
Natsuki curls up into a ball and tries to hide her face behind her legs.
- Tenma: Uh... Kiyoshi, what about--
- Kiyoshi: No.
- Tenma: Then you Kenichi?
- Kenichi: Um... it begins with an M...
- Uran: Mark One.
- Tenma: Correct, thank you, Uran!
