Aquaman: Atlantis Rising is an imagined film set in the DC Cinematic Universe and is the third and final film in the Aquaman trilogy. It serves as the sequel to Aquaman: King of the Sea and is set after The Justice League III.

Plot[]

  • Hila, Mera's twin sister, returns to Atlantis with the help of the sorcerer, Gamemnae
  • Hila blackmails Vulko into resurrecting the dead King Atlan to overthrow Aquaman and Mera. Hila fights Mera, who is saved by Dolphin
  • Aquaman rescues a kid named Garth from Gamemnae.
  • King Atlan, Vulko, Gamemnae, and Hila battle Aquaman, Mera, Nereus, Dolphin, and Garth in the third act.
  • Orm returns to sacrifice himself against King Atlan. Mera defeats Hila. Gamemnae is killed. Vulko regrets his decisions and surrenders peacefully.
  • Aquaman finally sees peace at Atlantis, and Mera has a child. Aquaman retires from the Justice League to raise his family watch over Atlantis. Aquaman elects Garth to be a liaison between the ocean and surface, similar to his own role while on the Justice League. This is the end of the Aquaman trilogy.

Dolph Lundgren returns as King Nereus in flashbacks, as his character died heroically in The Justice League III. Manitou Raven and Manitou Dawn are CGI creations that help Aquaman destroy Gamemnae. The Swamp-Thing is referenced. Temuera Morrison makes a cameo as Tom Curry to say goodbye to his son. Gal Gadot appears in the final scene as Diana/Wonder Woman to say goodbye to Aquaman and Mera as they retire from the Justice League to focus on Atlantis and their family.

Future[]

This film marks the end of the Aquaman trilogy, however some of the characters will continue making appearance in the DC Cinematic Universe. Garth will take on the role of Aqualad in the upcoming Teen Titans movie. Aquaman, Mera, Orm and Vulko will appear as alternate versions of themselves in Flashpoint.
