Anya's Ghost is a 2029 American computer-animated supernatural horror comedy film directed by Andy Muschietti and written by Tamsyn Muir and based on the graphic novel of the same name by Vera Brosgol. The film stars Brooklynn Prince, Alyla Browne, Jacob Tremblay, Alisha Weir, Jessica Chastain, Hugh Laurie, Melissa McCarthy and John Krasinski. In the film, unpopular Anya befriends the ghost of Emily, a girl around Anya's age who died 90 years earlier. After failing to make Anya popular and happy, Emily becomes manipulative and controlling, leading Anya to discover the truth about Emily's death. Produced by Paramount Animation, Nickelodeon Movies, Animal Logic and Double Dream, the film was released on March 9, 2029. The film was praised for its animation, visual style, voice acting, Muschietti's direction, Muir's screenplay, themes, humor, musical score and faithfulness to the source material. The film won the Academy Award for Best Animated Feature, Best Original Score and Best Adapted Screenplay at the 102nd Academy Awards.
