Antidotes are types of medicines that cure or counter-attack poisons. Antidotes can be administed to an infected individual through various mediums. Because some poisons are complex, the creation of antidotes require attention to not potentially kill the victim. Sasori noted that, when making antidotes, a mistake as simple as a small hairline may cause the victim to die. Duo to this, specially trained medical-nin waterbenders like Tsunade, Shizune, and Sakura Haruno can analyze and decipher the elements used in complex poisons for their healing techniques or the creation of antidote medicines.

Antidote types

There are multiple types of antidote:

  • Antidotes that are formulated into liquid form and then drunk by the victim.
  • Antidotes used by the Aburame Clan; these antidotes are found within the bodies of their parasictic insects, who can enter the body of the poisoned victim to neutralize the poison.
  • During a battle it is difficult to tend a poisoned fallen ally, and so for situations like these, medical-nin can develop antidotes and store them into capsules and/or shots prior.

Combating poisons

A handful of individuals have been able to encounter poisons during their life and successfully combat them. During the Second Great Shinobi War, Tsunade was able to develop several antidotes that countered one of Chiyo's poisons, much to her dismay.

During the Kazekage Rescue Mission, Sakura Haruno demonstrated advanced waterbending skills by extracting Sasori's poison from Kankurou's body without killing him, later allowing her to study it and develop an antidote with Chiyo's help.
