Angry Birds X (Also known as Steven Spielberg Presents Angry Birds X, working title being Angry Birds: The Series) is an American-Finnish animated series based on the video game series, Angry Birds, developed by Genndy Tartakovsky (in his fifth collaboration with the channel) and Derrick J. Wyatt and was produced by Cartoon Network Studios, Sony Pictures Animation, DHX Media, Amblin Television, and Rovio Animation, for Cartoon Network. Sporting a new animation style, Angry Birds X serves as a comedic yet adventurous adaptaion to the Angry Birds franchise with a few changes. The show first premiered on Cartoon Network on December 11, 2013, as a 5-part television film. Unlike Angry Birds Toons, The Flock and The Bad Piggies talk. In Season 5, they added all Angry Birds Evolution characters (except Shirley, due to being a character from the Angry Birds Movie franchise) in the show as minor characters or supporting characters. The series concluded with a television film on April 16, 2020

The series takes place within the same universe as CN City, but features a new take on the Angry Birds characters and a Looney Tunes-esque tone

Plot[]

The series takes place on an island inhabited by birds who are pleasant and kind, who know something of the outside world. They treasure 203 eggs (3 eggs as of season 2) above all else, and are all carefree and easygoing, except for Hal, Chuck, Red, Stella, The Blues, Terence, Bubbles and Bomb. Bomb is a grouchy, grumpy curmudgeon who has had a big heart, but a literal short fuse from the very beginning. Eventually, his explosive disorders become too much and he is sentenced to Matilda's anger management courses, despite being proven innocent.

The birds are suddenly visited by green pigs, who are dumb but funny. The birds and pigs befriend each other, but Bomb and his flock are suspicious with four pigs, Edgar Baconhooves, Marf, Gramps, and Frank, and never trust them at all. Ultimately, one of the most beloved conflicts in video game history is reignited when Edgar Baconhooves and his minions, whom joined a team of exiled pigs called the "Bad Piggies", led by King Julian Matthew Smoothcheeks I, reveal their true colours by stealing their eggs and eating them, and leads to Bomb and King Matthew Smoothcheeks II leading the entire flock and pigs in a maddening frenzy of rightful retaliation as well as to make the impossible choice to put aside their differences and forge an permanent alliance against Edgar and save the eggs and the Pigs’ home. Ever since they permanently put their differences aside and form a companionship, Bomb has now achieved “hero" status on Piggy Island, a medal of leadership he wears proudly as the Flock and the Bad Piggies go on epic adventures, guarding the eggs, going on adventurous journeys, and saving the eggs from the Bad Piggies, whom are thriving to keep the Great Egg War going.

Each episode's plot featured characters and situations based upon the Angry Birds franchise, as well as several sound effects and musical cues from the games. Despite being based on the games, it featured some creative liberties between the show and the video games. For example, in the show, Red receives two permanent powers, whereas he hasn't have any in the game until Red's Mighty Feathers, Bomb being the leader of the Flock instead of Red, and the Flock magically gaining flight after being launched by the slingshot.

Like the Looney Tunes, Tom and Jerry, the Tex Avery-directed MGM cartoons, Barney Bear, The Pink Panther, The Ant and the Aardvark, Roland and Rattfink, Animaniacs, and Tiny Toon Adventures, this series makes use of cartoon violence (e.g. anvils, pianos and safes falling on someone, someone getting whacked on the head by a mallet, liberal use of explosives), wild takes and slapstick.

Characters[]

The Flock[]

  • Bomb (voiced by John DiMaggio impersonating Jack Black) - Bomb is a Greater Antillean Bullfinch with a "fuse" on top of his head and has the ability to cause explosions at will. Despite his fearsome appearance, Bomb is a very gentle and kind, though somewhat sarcastic leader of the Flock, a group of birds dedicated to protecting the eggs from the villainous Bad Piggies, and speaks with a Scottish accent. He is very sincere and genuine in his actions and is willing to put himself in conflict or danger to help out his allies. Bomb may have clear anger issues, to the point where he can be a big grouch at times, but this doesn't stop him from being a brave and dedicated leader to his flock, and can still be charismatic despite his anger issues. His power, Blast O' Bomb, enables him to explode at will after glowing reddish-orange when he's extremely furious. As of season 3, Bomb gains a second power, Shockwave, which causes him send a aura of electricity to force away nearby objects and electrocute enemies after standing in a puddle of a purple potion
  • Red (voiced by Curtis Armstrong) - Red is a Northern Cardinal with a Texan accent. He usually is very level-headed and relaxed, though he does struggle with anger issues from time to time. He is a very dedicated member to Bomb's flock, as well as a very loyal friend to him and to the flock and a prominent guardian of the eggs. Ever since the Mudbeard Massacre of 2009, Red has had a personal hatred for pigs, but after the flock made peace with the pigs, his hatred for them lessened to only the Bad Piggies, especially Edgar Baconhooves and King Julian Mudbeard-Smoothcheeks I. By the end of the season one finale, Bomb makes Red the co-leader of the group. He was initially powerless, until Red's Mighty Feathers and Co-Leader Troubles gave him two powers, his first power, Mighty Feathers, enables him to lock on a target and then dash towards the desired target and his second power, Warcry of Fury", making his battle cry emit a flash of red soundwaves, causing structures and towers to topple and fall.
  • Chuck (voiced by William Salyers impersonating Mel Blanc) - Chuck is an American Goldfinch/Woodpecker hybrid with a New Jersey accent who can move incredibly fast, to the point of even slowing down time. He is also known for most of the mature jokes, and says "A family cartoon!" when someone else tells a dirty, rude, gross joke. He is incredibly cartoony, to the point of seeming wacky and crazy. Chuck tends to be a bit ignorant when it comes to the strategy and anger of the Angry Birds, but he's still a vital member of the flock. Chuck can lose control when it comes to his goofy antics, but his heart is always in the right place, which is something his flock truly understands. What Chuck lacks in strength, he more than makes up for with speed, combat skills, anger and loads of cartoon logic. Due to being associated speed, his first power, Speedy Dash, lets him dash forward a supersonic distance, piercing through wooden structures and his second power, Chuck Time, allows him to move so fast that he slows down time, increasing his speed via electricity.
  • The Blues (voiced by Danny Pudi (Jay), Eric Bauza impersonating Larry Fine (Jake), and Ben Schwartz impersonating Curly Howard (Jim)) - The Blues are a brotherly trio of Mountain Bluebirds with big hearts and even bigger appetites. They speak in Brooklyn accents. They are very mischievous birds, often pulling pranks at each other and the Bad Piggies. They have a very close bond with each other, almost always finishing each other's sentences. They can be very intelligent and cunning, and use this feature to get out of situations they find themselves in. They are extremely gifted in constructing contraptions, though this talent usually goes to fooling the Bad Piggies. Their shared power, Triple Threat, allows them to fuse together into one bird and split apart when being launched by the slingshot and their second shared power, Volatile Triple Threat, allows them to multiply into explosive identical copies, then explode when each of the trio trigger the explosion.
    • Jay, being the leader and the oldest triplet, is very brainy, intelligent, confident, and is the one that comes up with these crazy ideas for their pranks and instructs and gives out plans for his brothers. His power, Tasmanian Spin, allows him to spin rapidly until he turns into a small blue nigh-invulnerable tornado, capable of ripping through enemies and traveling large distances quickly.
    • Jake, the middle triplet, is the scatterbrain of the trio, not the brightest, but undeniably way more mischievous and laid-back while also being goofily charismatic. His power, Bounce-o-Rama, allows him to bounce off of floors and walls at incredible rates of speed, harming oppenents he bounds into.
    • Jim, despite being the youngest of the three, is the most wholesome of the trio. He is known for being extremely talkative, due to being very energetic, to the point of never seeming to know when to stop talking, which continuously forced Jay to interrupt him. His power, Burrowing Clash, allows him to directly use his beak as a drill to dig into ground, soft dirt, or snow and popping up elsewhere to attack from below.
  • Matilda (voiced by Deedee Magno) - Matilda is a white Chicken of French heritage with rosy cheeks that serves as the medic of the group. She loves nature and always seeks peaceful solutions to problems. She is a very peaceful bird herself, and has since learned the error of the ways of an angry bird. Now she makes it her duty to keep the good vibes going at all times. She enjoys cooking, fine arts, and gardening. She sees the good in anything, even the little things in life. Matilda’s so optimistic that she even looks for the best in her own flock and the pigs. Her power, Egg Bomb Blitz, allows her to lay pink egg-shaped bombs with cerise spots that explode into pink fiery glitter when they're fully detonated or have a hard impact on a solid object.
  • Hal (voiced by Jim Cummings with an Australian accent) - Hal is an intelligent, no-nonsense, yet easy-going Emerald Toucanet from Australian who is the voice of reason and straight man of the show. Hal is a inventor, intellect and gadgeteer with a vast knowledge of almost any subject. Hal is shown as a very mature character and the noble center that holds the Flock together. He is shown to have a deep love for the pleasures in life, showing that he does emotional healing for others. He is a rather adventurous bird. He finds no desire to be filled with anger and doesn't want to get involved in the everlasting fight against the Bad Piggies unless if the eggs are stolen or if his friends are threatened. Hal’s focus on the logical and rational can sometimes make him a little socially awkward, but, knowing he’s the smartest bird in the flock makes him funny and charming, when he wants to be. His power, Swoosh Bang, allows him to spin back like a boomerang by opening his beak really wide.
  • Terence (voiced by Kevin Michael Richardson, with his grunting provided by Heljä Heikkinen) - Terence is a large Northern Cardinal with a Texan accent, who is the owner of his diner, Ter's, and Red's older brother with a grumpy appearance. He prefers to grunt sometimes, but he makes what he says count, 'cause when he talks it's to say something important. Starting with The Big Setup, after Red freed him from a pile of stone bricks, Terence becomes his protector whenever needed. He sometimes moves around Weeping Angel style, disappearing and reappearing elsewhere only when other characters aren't looking at him. His power, Birdquake, lets him use his heavy weight to smash the ground, causing destructive earthquakes that tumble any structure and sometimes make the surface crack around him. In season 2, Terence adopted an orphaned hatchling daughter, Zoe.
  • Bubbles (voiced by Sam Lavagnino) - Bubbles is a young inflatable Bullock's Oriole who is naïve and curious and is voiced with a lateral lisp. Like The Blues, he is mischievous and fun-loving. His biggest loves are staying positive, and candy. Bubbles always has a big smile on his face. It fits perfectly when celebrating a victorious battle or someone's bird-day, and if they're discussing a new strategy for protecting the eggs and one of the birds is smiling gleefully from ear to ear, it's frankly adorable. His power, Inflation Destruction, allows him to inflate to an enormous size and then deflate like a balloon, flying about until he returns to normal. Although he can control the size of how much he inflates, as opposed to having a consistent size in the games.
  • Stella (voiced by Nicole Sullivan) - Stella is an eternally tomboyish and bright Bourke's Parakeet. Stella dislikes being addressed by her full name, Estella Rose Parakeet. Thanks to her optimistic nature, she has become one of the finest members of the Flock. She may look beautiful, but those pigs shouldn't be fooled. If they push her too far, she'll soon reveal her blazing-hot temper. She is a responsible, athletic girl that serves as the "tomboy" of the group. Her first power, Bubble Trouble, allows her to encapsulate herself and nearby objects in bubbles, which lifts them up. After a few seconds, the bubbles pop, and release what's inside of them. Her second power, Pink Flash, lets her ricochet off all materials and crash into another, similar to parkour. Stella was originally born in her home island, Golden Island, and had moved into Bird Island as a teenager via a boat, and was lucky enough to have encountered some birds who took her in and raised her as one of their own, eventually making her as one of the leading experts on Aviantopia.
  • Chip (voiced by E.G. Daily) - Chip is a chipper and upbeat Striped Warbler hatchling that hatched from a lost easter egg. He has a somewhat twisted and mischievous side. His power, Easter Egg Toss, allows him to throw Easter Eggs that explode when coming in contact with the surface.
  • Mighty Eagle (voiced by Peter Cullen) - The Mighty Eagle is a wise, compassionate, proud, brave, and mighty bald eagle who was originally feared by the Flock since Bomb, Red, and Chuck was very afraid to go ask him for assistance. But as time progressed, the Flock began to be less afraid of Mighty now. He likes to tell stories with moral lessons to the flock, he likes to go out of his cave, and goes fishing. Mighty Eagle used to be one of the greatest heroes of the war with the pigs, but one harrowing incident sent him into self-imposed exile on a mountaintop. On his watch, the pigs were able to steal the eggs, and Mighty Eagle's failure to protect them shamed him so much that he retreated into solitude. He only invites the Flock, and the Pigs, go inside his cave for parties and special occasions. He is sometimes great at fishing. He is fair in his duties as a guardian of the Flock. Mighty is also the eldest, strongest, and wisest of all the birds.
  • Ruby (voiced by Kari Wahlgren impersonating Nicole Jaffe) - Ruby is a sharp-tongued, sassy, focused, inquisitive Summer Tanager. Hilariously overdramatic and lovingly snarky, Ruby is the most fabulous Angry Bird of them all. She is Red's girlfriend and Stella's best friend. She has a no-nonsense, efficient, organized, sardonic, and feisty nature. Like Red, Ruby is also blessed and cursed with a gift for anger, though in a literally fiery way. But for her, it's her independence that can solve complex equations and troubling situations in the blink of an eye. She is usually calm and easy-going, but can become dangerous when provoked and annoyed over-the-line. She is constantly annoyed by Edgar's egg-stealing antics. Her power, Blazing Fire, allows her to rapidly roll into a ball-like shape, ignites herself with fiery energy, giving an amaranth aura to her ball-like form, and causes an immensely big fiery explosion when she makes contact with pig fortresses, which would burn them for a few seconds.
  • Bounci (voiced by Ernie Sabella) - Bounci is a slow, but big hearted Loon. His most prominent character traits are his good nature, his low intelligence. He is on good terms with the Flock, as he often knowingly encourages activities that get them and eggs out of trouble caused by the Bad Piggies. Bounci's power, Bounding Crash, lets him bounce off a surface, causing him to have some amount of power in some situations, and crashing into a structure
  • Melody (voiced by Sofia Carson) - Melody is a melodious and friendly Common Potoo. Having grown up in a musical nest, jazz is the sound of home for Melody. She cares deeply for her friends and family, and is actually slow to anger, but when she gets upset, she expresses herself through song to devastating effect. Her power, Treble Vacuum, lets her become a versatile black hole, allowing her to suck materials and pigs in and spit them back out as she sings. Her accent is a mixture of Mid-Atlantic accent and valley girl.
  • Eugene (voiced by Brad Garrett) - Eugene is a depressive, but compassionate shoebill who was mind-controlled by Dr. Frederick Piggerschwein to destroy the Flock. After having a change of heart when he broke free from Dr. Frederick's control, Eugene shows his gratitude toward Bomb and the Flock, and becomes part of the Angry Birds. His power, Quaking Fury, is to cause a shockwave when crashing into structures, which can push objects upward.
  • Silver (voiced by Cristina Pucelli) - Silver is the goofy, happy-go-lucky, and zany falcon who makes the Flock laugh with her goofy sense of humor which she inheritted from the piggies. She is wild and hyperactive. She is Chuck's childhood best friend. She is depicted as the comedian of the Flock, with most of her dialogue consisting of good puns that amuse her flock. Her power, Swoop 'n Crash, is to loop in the air and fly straight down to crash onto a surfaces and destroy them, sending nearby objects to fly away.
  • Chet (voiced by Bumper Robinson) - Chet is the very playful and mischievous ornate hawk-eagle. He likes to play pranks, and much like the Blues, Chet plays pranks on the Bad Piggies. Chet is also known to be extremely hyper and to ricochet all over Piggy Island. He has brotherly friendship with Bubbles and he usually protects him from danger. His power, Ricochet 'Round, allows him to, well, ricochet off objects.
  • Frost (voiced by Tom Kenny) - Frost (real name Izzac Frosh) is an extraterrestrial ice cube-shaped bird who can be serious when the Pigs stole the eggs, but tells bad jokes but he has a great sense of humor and a slight lisp. Frost is cool, collected and wise. He is very alien-like due to being from space. Ergo, he knows how things work on Earth most of the time. As a result, he is often fun-loving, yet observant, but seen as the voice of reason when tension rises. His power, Deep Freeze Attack, allows him to explode, then freeze nearby objects.
  • Tony (voiced by Gary Schwartz) - Tony is a Leucistic Cardinal and Red and Terence's cousin from Finland. Tony is the polar opposite of Terence. While Terence is grumpy, Tony is jovial. Terence also has a close connection with Tony, who he works together with. Tony likes to fish, swim and do other winter-related activities. His power, Pig-Chilling Crush, allows him to slam down towards the ground, releasing a small shockwave. He can do more damage after he drops.
  • Ollie (voiced by Taye Diggs) - Ollie is a smooth-talking and fun-loving Snow Bunting with a Canadian accent and a love of hockey. He is Tony's little brother. Ollie is full of life and bursting with positive energy. Ollie is shown to have a very good heart and is also shown to be caring towards his friends and also shown to be brave. His power, Hockey Bazooka, is to strike an endless barrage of hockey pucks or any type of projectile at enemies.
  • Callum (voiced by Bryce Pinkham) - Callum is a purple honeycreeper, who is also pessimistic and sarcastic, as he often diverts from the Flock's goals of protecting the eggs by doing whatever he wants, but he can be selfless when he wants to. He often complains or makes fun of someone, though he is stern and reasonable. He has a cowboy-like accent. His power, Glitch of Force, allows him to unleash a a giant purple aura of plasma that pushes object and electrocutes pigs objects away with a bit of strength.
  • Jo (voiced by Emily Jenness) - Jo is a non-binary cresent-caped lophorina who gets a bit shy, but loves showing their love of dancing. They are also shown to be intelligent.
  • Rachel
  • Robert
  • Hessie
  • Liam

Stella's Friends[]

  • Dahlia (voiced by Mindy Cohn) — Dahlia is a Great Horned Owl. She is intelligent, and likes science and technology. She often stays up at daytime and sleeps at night, and this is easy for her, due to being the only owl who sleeps at night and stays up at day. She pretty much became the leader of the Golden Island birds after Stella left. She is shown to be a busybody owl and creator of Golden Island's no-law rule. Her power, Science-Fu, allows her to phase through objects and/or to a kung-fu kick, causing just enough damage to knock objects over.
  • Poppy (voiced by Michaela Dietz) — Poppy is a goofy and comedic prankster Lutino Cockatiel who has a passion for playing on percussion instruments. The most important good thing about her is that she doesn't get too carried away on playing the drums. She also cares for everyone, like her and Willow helping Stella overcome her fear of flying. She likes and enjoys being noisy. Poppy was a bit jealous of Chuck when they first met, but they seem to get along now. Poppy is wild, mischievous and crazy as a coconut. She lives life in the fast lane and loves acting the comedian to make the other birds laugh. Sometimes her practical jokes go a little too far, but friends always forgive her in the end, because that's what friends do. Her power, Tornado Dive, allows her to form a tornado, then drop to the ground.
  • Gale (voiced by Yvonne Orji with a Mid-Atlantic accent) — Gale is a Violet-Backed Starling who rules Golden Island. She can be vain, demanding, melodramatic, and seductive, but she is caring and nurturing around her friends. She has a motherly figure towards Luca. Gale seems to have a fondness for golden flowers, since she has two golden flowers that she takes care of in her room. She appears to be nonchalant to most things. She hates it when somebody steals her golden egg necklace or when someone threatens Stella, that'll make her go on a furious rampage. She seems to have a fear of being turned into gold, after a traumatic event. Her power, Golden Touch, allows her to paint stuff with golden flower dust and then swipes through them.
  • Luca (voiced by Kath Soucie) — Luca is a Scrub Jay hatchling. He is small and cute, but he can be a bit.. kooky. He can yell really loud when he's upset, angry, or when his friends are threatened. He sees Willow as a big sister. He's also pretty fond of Chuck. Luca thinks he's bigger than he really is - a fact that has got him into trouble a few times already! While he doesn't talk much, he certainly does like imitating everyone and everything around him. He can sound like any of birds, pigs, or even any of the island's critters and he really enjoys doing it. He can use this advantage in the form of his power, Soundwave Shock. This lets him shout a shriek that can deconstruct ice or glass into tiny shards.
  • Willow (voiced by Shannon Chan-Kent) — Willow is a very shy, creative, and artistic Victoria Crowned Pigeon. She often wears a yellow and red striped hat. She has colorful feathers on top of her head, but it's unknown if these colorful feathers on her forehead are actually her feathers or not. She takes care of nature and the critters, as she helps the critters break free. She mostly takes care of Luca like a little brother. She is an caretaker for critters and animals. Her power, Vortex Spin, allows her to saw through obstacles after her trajectory.

The Pigs[]

  • Matthew / King Matthew Pumpernickel Mudbeard-Smoothcheeks II (voiced by Brian Doyle-Murray impersonating Ed Wynn) — King Matthew Pumpernickel Mudbeard-Smoothcheeks II is the current king of the pigs with mannerisms similar to the Mad Hatter of Disney's 1951 adaptation of Alice in Wonderland. He may be slightly childish, snotty, a bit pompous, and gluttonous, but he is also healthy, mildly intelligent and selfless. While he is loud, eccentric, and kooky, he is also rather charming and can be mild mannered from time to time. His kind heart is also very big, often wanting to be a better king than his brother.
  • Queen Petunia Porkins-Smoothcheeks (voiced by Angelique Cabral) - Queen Petunia Porkins-Smoothcheeks is the wife of Matthew and current queen of Pig City. Petunia is a kind and confident woman. She cares greatly for her subjects and wants what’s best for them, and wants to see their well being is okay. She is also loving and devoted to her husband, Matthew, often supporting him greatly. She's not afraid to share her opinions with him and give him advice on how to do things better.
  • Prince Porky
  • Princess Porkina
  • Leonard / King Mudbeard Jr. (voiced by Bill Hader) — Leonard is the former ruler of Piggy Island and Matthew's father. He teaches Matthew what being a king of Piggy Island is supposed to do, take good care of the minion pigs, and how the king is responsible for protecting and maintaining the delicate balance of the ecosystem, mediate problems between its creatures, keeping the peace between the birds and pigs, and to make sure that pigs remain as the alpha species on Piggy Island.
  • Ross (voiced by Charlie Adler) — Ross is Matthew's right hand pig. He's not the smartest pig of the bunch, but will always try to do things right. He approaches his job with great enthusiasm. Whether serving as a piggy diplomat greeting the birds with warm hugs or attempting to operate contraptions like zip lines and escalators, Ross is usually doing it with a silly smile on his face and a perky curl on his tail. On the other hand, Ross is shown to be trusty and fun-loving when doing a dance-off or doing whatever others like
  • Corporal Richard Pigman (voiced by Richard Steven Horvitz impersonating Rick May) — Corporal Richard is a militaristic pig who wears a helmet with an ace of spades playing card. He reveres King Pig and likes to treat others and the minion pigs like soldiers. While he may be tough and militaristic, Richard is nonetheless kind and loyal to his allies and fellow pigs, although he has a tendency to lose his temper. Richard is a former fighter in the Great Egg War, and specializes in army knowledge and loves the chance to train anyone who is in need of training.
  • Foreman Nigel Piglington (voiced by Lewis Black) — Nigel is a foreman with a bright orange bushy moustache who is in charge of the construction projects. He occasionally leads the charge for protecting the eggs when Richard isn't doing so. He is a dedicated and responsible person. However, this sometimes makes him very short-tempered and a bit bossy. Nigel is also notable for being a very persistent person, as he never gives up, no matter how many times has he failed in something. Nevertheless, he can also be hard-working, as he does not like laziness and instead does the hard work and does his job right, just like his ancestors.
  • Professor Mario Pigsworth (voiced by Bill Hader) — Professor Mario Pigsworth is a professor pig who always has something smart to say. Everyone asks him many questions, and he was never ever tired of only knowing simple stuff.
  • Minion Pigs (voiced by Pierre Coffin, Chris Renaud, Eric Bauza, Billy West, Brian Drummond, Trevor Devall, Bob Bergen, Janice Kawaye, Rob Paulsen, Tara Strong, Tabitha St. Germain, Mel Blanc (from archival recordings), Antti LJ Pääkkönen. As a group, they're a competent and reliable work force, having constructed an entire city for their kind. Most pigs have many different occupations
  • Chronicler Doug Piggerstein (voiced by Brian Fisher) — Doug is one of the wisest and oldest pigs at Pig City. He came acrosses the Flock's well being and, though absent-minded, pompous, and judgemental at first, is shown to be caring, welcoming, friendly, and possesses all of the good qualities of the stereotypical chronicler. He is also a kind and didactic speaker. He often praises and/or rants about modern television shows that are good or bad and about how things were better back in his day.
  • King Leonard Mudbeard Sr. (voiced by Benjamin Bratt) — King Leonard Mudbeard Sr. is the former ruler of Piggy Island, Matthew's grandfather, and Leonard's father. He was the much feared and nihilistic king before his son, King Leonard Mudbeard Jr., and his grandson, Matthew. During his tenure, he caused the Mudbeard Massacre of 2009, as he killed off the Flock's ancestors. As a ghost after his death, King Mudbeard spends his days berating and judging his grandson and his son for ending the war between the Angry Birds and Bad Piggies.
  • Mechanic Louis Pigsly is a mechanic and good friend of Ross.
  • Piggy McCool is the Angry Birds' biggest fan.
  • Reginald (voiced by David Tennant) - Reginald is a brother of Nigel, but is shown to be more of a gentleman than most of the pigs, having an British accent.
  • Jefferstein

  • Charles A. Haruka-Zori
  • Soldier Pigs
  • Postman Patrick Porkchop
  • Arnold
  • Jorgen
  • Construction Pig

Antagonists[]

  • Julian / King Matthew Julian Mudbeard-Smoothcheeks I (voiced by James Spader impersonating Deem Bristow) — King Julian Smoothcheeks I is the overarching antagonist and the former ruler of Piggy Island who is the villainous brother of King Matthew Smoothcheeks, of whom he is the exact opposite of him. He got exiled to a island filled with boars by the Mighty Eagle where he shaves his beard and grows out his moustache. King Smoothcheeks I is the commander of the Bad Piggy Empire as he is ultimately the driving force behind The Great Egg War, which he often uses to work with his minions. His obsession with stealing the Flock's eggs and eating them is often his downfall.
  • Chef Edgar Baconhooves (voiced by Jason Isaacs voice-matching Long John Baldry and Stefan Karl Steffanson) — Chef Edgar Baconhooves is the main villain who continuously formulates feckless schemes in stealing the eggs. Edgar is the current leader of the Bad Piggy Empire. Chef Edgar was originally born to two loving parents. His father just so happened to be a chef, and taught him how to cook. Everybody laughed at his full name. When he first sees eggs when he was a piglet, they destroyed his first bit of sanity and made him go crazy with hunger. In Angry Birds X: The Fine-Feathered Movie, Edgar gradually begins to change his ways before and after being betrayed by Baron Harmful.

  • Professor Percy Pigsworth (voiced by Maurice LaMarche) — Professor Percy Pigsworth is the less successful cousin of Professor Mario Pigsworth.
  • Jeff McBacon (voiced by Dennis Bateman) — Jeff McBacon is an enigmatic French pig with an unknown past. He has a authentically snooty French accent and acts like a Charles Boyer ripoff, swooning women, and having more class and manners than Marf and Frank.

Production[]

After establishing its own in-house animation studio in January of 2012, Rovio announced that they were collaborating with Cartoon Network, Amblin Television, and DHX Media to make an new, long-form Angry Birds television series, with Sony Pictures Animation associating it. In early 2013, it was announced that the series, now titled Angry Birds X, would premiere in the original game's fourth anniversary on Cartoon Network.

The aim of the adaptation based on Angry Birds was for the cartoon to match the tone of Tiny Toon Adventures, Animaniacs, Toonsylvania, Pinky and the Brain, Tex Avery shorts, Tom and Jerry, DePatie-Freleng shorts, Woody Woodpecker, Timon and Pumbaa, Mickey Mouse Works, Ed, Edd n Eddy, Hi Hi Puffy AmiYumi, Adventure Time, the Looney Tunes shorts in their earlier days and the golden age while staying faithful to the source material. This led to the slapstick-comedy roots and heart-warming moments in each episode. The characters themselves saw some alterations to their personality traits, while some having personality traits that inspire the characters' traits from the Angry Birds Movie - for example, Chuck being a clever karmic trickster ( a la Bugs Bunny, Slappy Squirrel, Buster Bunny, Babs Bunny, Pink Panther and Adventures of Sonic The Hedgehog's version of Sonic ), but mostly a wacky, zany, crazy, goofy, hysterical, demented, bonkers, happy-go-lucky screwball ( a la Daffy Duck, Woody Woodpecker, Screwy Squirrel, Aracuan Bird, Heckle and Jeckle, Yoyo Dodo, Gogo Dodo and Yakko, Wakko and Dot ) and Matilda being a peaceful anger management instructor.

On December 2012, Angry Birds X received a makeover, in order to distinguish itself from the separate, vastly different, short-form Angry Birds Toons, while still having it to be comedic. The show bible for Angry Birds X was written in February 2013, with the final revision made on March 17, 2013, when Angry Birds Toons first released. Executive producers Pete Browngardt and Steven Spielberg confirmed that Red and Terence would be presented as biological brothers in this show, with Terence being the older brother of Red, due to them having a mutual respect for each other. This decision was praised by fans of the games. A July 2013 interview had crew members giving more details.

Casting info[]

During an announcement of June 2012, Jaakko Iisalo, Steven Spielberg, and Genndy Tartakovsky announced that John DiMaggio, Curtis Armstrong, William Salyers, Deedee Magno, Jim Cummings, Kevin Michael Richardson, Nicole Sullivan, Sam Lavagnino, Danny Pudi, Eric Bauza, and Ben Schwartz would headline the voice cast as Bomb, Red, Chuck, Matilda, Hal, Terence, Stella, Bubbles, and the Blues. The announcement was met with a mixed reaction from fans; while some questioned the casting choices, others welcomed the idea of the choices, in particular Cummings as Hal. Salyers, at first, declined to voice Chuck in the show, feeling that it was too similar to his role as Rigby in Regular Show, but Tartakovsky eventually convinced him to sign through the premise of the show.

In July 2012, Brain Doyle-Murray, Bill Hader, Maurice LaMarche, Charlie Adler, Pierre Coffin, Brian Fisher, Richard Steven Horvitz, and Lewis Black joined to voice King Pig, Professor Pig, Mechanic Pig, Freckled Pig, the Minion Pigs, Chronicler Pig, Corporal Pig and Foreman Pig, as they also wanted to re-imagine as more heroic than the actual piggy villains. Jason Issacs, Lee Tockar, Neil Crone, Jeff Bennett, and Dennis Bateman were also set as members of the villainous Bad Piggies. In Mid-July 2012, Issacs revealed he was voicing Chef Pig.

In August 2012, several notable actors were considered for the role of the main villain, King Matthew Julian Mudbeard-Smoothcheeks I. Wagner Moura auditioned to voice Julian, whom was in, but after his audition, the producers found him too terrifying for the role. Michael C. Hall was also considered for the role, but turned it down. Jason Segel expressed interest in playing Julian, but both Spielberg and Tartakovsky refused; they both thought nobody would take Segel seriously as a serious villain. The role of Julian was ultimately given to James Spader. He compared his part as Julian to Cummings' role as Dr Robotnik in Sonic the Hedgehog and Christopher Lloyd's role as Judge Doom in Who Framed Roger Rabbit.

Upon the trailer's release, Pudi, Bauza, and Schwartz confirmed on who would voice one of the Blues in the show; Pudi voices Jay, Bauza voices Jake, and Schwartz voices Jim.

Animation[]

In order to craft a set of rules alongside the models for the characters that they then used and in order to complete 26 episodes for the first season, Cartoon Network Studios, Rovio Animation, and Amblin Television contracted four different studios, including TMS Entertainment in Tokyo; Snipple Animation Studios and Toon City Animation in Manila; and Flying Bark Productions in Sydney. Tokyo Movie Shinsha also animated the series' opening sequence. Some of the Cartoon Network staff disliked working with Toon City Animation due to the animation studio's inconsistent quality, and episodes that they animated were often subject to multiple re-takes. In other cases, portions of Toon City-animated episodes were re-animated by another animation studio. Toon City was actually dropped after "Ready, Aim, FIRE!". Andrea Torrejon, Eric Goldberg, and Robert Alvarez serve as the series' animation directors and lead animators.

Given that it's animated in digital-ink-and-paint, Angry Birds X was made with a higher production value than other Cartoon Network shows, The Angry Birds X characters often move fluidly, and do not regularly stand still and speak, as in other television cartoons.

Music[]

Guy Moon and Steven Bernstein composed a rendition of the iconic Angry Birds theme song. Like Animaniacs, Angry Birds X used a 35-piece orchestra, and thirteen composers were contracted to write original underscore for the series' run: Bruce Broughton, Andy Sturmer, Steven Bernstein, Charlie Brissette, Mike Reagan, David Schweitzer, Carl Johnson, Joshua Moshier, Benny Oschmann, Alexander Röder, Douglas Black Heaton, Salla Hakkola, and Guy Moon, which includes themes from the Angry Birds games, in collaboration with series composer Ari Pulkkinen. Some reccurring tracks, composed by Heitor Pereira, can be carried over the Angry Birds Movie.

The Hit House composed the music for its promos, "Slingshot", based on the Angry Birds theme.

Reception[]

It has received worldwide critical acclaim since its premiere and gained enormous popularity by its second season.

Film[]

A feature film, Angry Birds X: The Fine-Feathered Movie, was released in theaters on April 13, 2018.
