Plot

Finn having a dream about the Lich-possessed snail using the Enchiridion to attack Billy causing him to awake and frantically tells Jake about his dream, who—after hearing that the Cosmic Owl appeared in the dream—believes it is a premonition. The two go visit Billy, and tell him about the dream. Billy realizes the importance of the dream, and the three of them set out to stop the Lich. After they head out, Billy tells them that they need to collect all the magical gems from all the princesses and Ice King's power crystals that protect them from the Lich. With only one gem left, Finn finds the Enchiridion in Billy's knapsack. Billy reveals that the book has magical properties, and after activating it a certain way, the circle on the front opens up showing 9 slots where all the gems go in, and it shows a brief diagram about what would happen if all the slots were filled.

A holographic being named Booko appears and explains that when all the gems are placed in the book, a portal to the multiverse will be opened. Billy claims that he is going to throw the Lich through this portal. Finn and Jake then set off to get the last gem: Princess Bubblegum's. Finn and Jake try to take the gem, a scuffle ensues, and the duo manages to get the gem. Once outside, Finn puts the gem in the final slot. Lights start to flash out of the stones on book. Then the book starts to shake while the pieces start to fall off as the Enchiridion turns into a black block. As Finn is running, Billy tells Finn to hurry. Princess Bubblegum then runs out telling Finn that Billy is really the Lich.

Just as she says this, one of the Gumball Guardians gets up, detecting the Lich, and blasts Billy revealing that half of Billy's face is actually the Lich's hand's. The Lich's hand then asks for the book, but Finn smashes the book with his knee. However, his action accidentally opens up a wormholem, which Princess Bubblegum kicks the Lich's hand, but then, Lord Grim, the Lich's son, comes out of the portal and wants revenge on Finn about his father's defeat and orders the monsters, including his sidekick Me-Mow, to attack them, but the heroes escape.

The next morning, as Princess Bubblegum prepares for war with Gumbald, Finn and Jake decide to visit him to prevent the battle from happening. They meet with the Gum Family who are hellbent on wanting to destroy Bubblegum. Ice King meets a failed actress Brenda, and immediately falls for her, something that he thought was impossible as he had never already loved before.

With no other option, Bubblegum sets to go to war with her uncle. Gumbald learns of Bubblegum's survival and forms an alliance with numerous past villains from throughout the series, including a confused Ice King, in preparation for the final battle upon which Ooo's fate depends: The Gum War. Before the war, Lord Grim kidnaps Princess Bubblegum and destroys the Candy Kingdom, and creates a new kingdom with an army of undead warriors, and banishes Finn, Jake and his friends out of Ooo. Meanwhile, Brenda angrily betrays Ice King and banishes him to the forest.

While lost in the forest as began to snow, Finn is attacked by the wolves, but his friends save him and take him to the Igloo. Ice King met Fionna, who is banished out of Aaa, along with Cake, and he immediately falls in love. Meanwhile, as Candy Kingdom is now under Grim's control, Lord Grim approached the mystery villain to collect revenge on Princess Bubblegum. Me-Mow and Brenda arrived his master and said what Princess Bubblegum is believed bad and Finn not renounces be hero yet. But Lord Grim never worry, he said soon Princess Bubblegum protect to her new boyfriend and and then I'm helping for Bubblegum do not disturb.

After challenging several dangers, as the evil witch, the abominable snowmen and the Eagle, Finn is kidnapped by Flying Lettuce Brothers, Gerath, and Tiffany, who creates a evil-like version of Jake to finish him. After the fight, Jake betrays his old gang and saves Finn from the certain death. Now, the heroes rush back to Candy Kingdom to stop Lord Grim from taking over. Back at Candy Kingdom, Finn angrily blames with Princess Bubblegum for holding him back at her uncle's cruelty. Lord Grim finally creates a evil plan to take over Candy Kingdom full of undead creatures and monsters, finally avenging the Lich's humilation by turning the Hand into his original self.

As the chaos creature attacks, Bubblegum sends her Gumball Guardians to fight it, while Lolly assists with Gumbald's giant robot, and Fern assists using his grass powers. The creature overpowers everyone and seemingly crushes Bubblegum, enraging Marceline, who assumes a more powerful form and kills it. Bubblegum revives, and she and Marceline emotionally express their feelings for one another before kissing, confirming their long hinted romance. The chaos creature then forms again and heads towards the treehouse. Jake witnesses the creature destroying his and Finn's tree house, and becomes despondent. BMO finds him and sings a comforting lullaby to him. The song's harmony negatively affects the chaos creatures, since the Lich's power is derived from chaos itself. Bubblegum encourages everyone else to sing the song, further weakening Grim's monsters and arrests Gumbald for his crimes, along with Bad Jake, Flying Lettuce Brothers, Gerath and the other villains, expect Tiffany, who escaped from the prison.

Meanwhile, Finn, Betty, and Ice King are trapped in a small, shrinking room within Grim. Grim's influence reverts Ice King to Simon, and Betty to her sanity, while Ice King's crown loses its power. Simon and Betty reconcile, but they and Finn resign themselves to death as the walls close in. Suddenly, BMO's song opens a breach, through which Finn and Simon escape while the heroes fights Grim. The fight ends when Betty, however, realizes that the singing has reset the ice crown's power, and so she puts it on wishes for the power to save Simon. This causes her and Grim to merge into a singular entity, destroying the chaos creatures, summoning a portal that sucks Betty, GOLB, Lord Grim and Me-Mow into it. With enemies gone, Candy Kingdom goes back to normal and the ice crown falls to the ground, where it is picked up by Gunter the penguin, who puts it on and becomes a creature that resembles Ice King himself. As Fern dies, he asks to be planted at Finn and Jake's tree house; the duo do as request, resulting in a new tree containing the Finnsword sprouting from the ground.

BMO concludes the story, saying everyone else "lived their life", and bids farewell to Shermy and Beth. Wanting to know if the story is true, they head to the tree that Fern sprouted, which is now gigantic.

During the credits, a montage with the song "Come Along with Me" is shown, revealing the future of the characters, including the adult Finn breaks the fourth wall, marries Brenda and have two kids. Shermy and Beth reach the top and pull out the sword, assuming a pose similar to Finn and Jake's at the end of the show's title sequence.
