2004 is a 2020 American comedy-drama film written and directed by Bo Burnham. The film stars Emma Roberts, Julia Garner, Catherine Keener, Stanley Tucci, Austin Butler, Aly Michalka and Logan Browning. It follows the peculiar friendship of two women, Natalie (Roberts) and Bernadette (Garner), who reflect on how they met each other in the summer of 2004.


2004 was Burnham's second directorial effort, after 2018's Eighth Grade. Burnham retained virtually all of the prior film's crew. Production on the film started on January 16, 2020 in Bakersfield, California and concluded on March 28.

The film was released on October 2, 2020 and was a box office success, earning $145 million worldwide from a $29 million budget. It received effusive praise from critics, who cited the film's strong emotion, performances, directing and screenplay.

2004 was honored as one of the top ten films of the year by the National Board of Review, American Film Institute and TIME Magazine. It received six nominations at the 93rd Academy Awards, including Best Picture, Best Director (Burnham), Best Supporting Actor (Tucci) and Best Original Screenplay, winning two Oscars for Best Supporting Actress (Keener) and Best Original Song for "Shadows of the Wind".

Keener also won the Golden Globe Award for Best Supporting Actress - Motion Picture, the BAFTA Award for Best Actress in a Supporting Role and the Screen Actors Guild Award for Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Supporting Role.
